Former JPO Commissioner Joins IAMM IP Hall Of Fame

The Intellectual Asset Management Magazine has recently announced the names of this year`s inductees into its IP Hall of Fame. Among the honored persons is Hisamitsu Arai, former Commissioner of the Japanese Patent Office.

Hisamitsu Arai played a central role in preparing the national Japanese strategy to make Japan a “top intellectual property-based nation.” His tenure as Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office lasted from 1996 to 1998. He then went on to serve as Vice-Minister for International Affairs at the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), later as special adviser to the METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). In 2003 he was appointed Secretary-General, Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters, of the Japanese Cabinet
Secretariat. He also served the WIPO Policy Advisory Commission.

The IP Hall of Fame was launched in 2005 to honor the achievement persons helping in establishing IP as one of the key business assets of the 21st century.

Over 300 nominations were received in the period from April to June. These were then collated and a short list of around 100 names was sent to Academy members, who then submitted their votes. The voting process ended on 1st September.
