The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has established new fees when Japan is designated in an international trademark application, in a designation subsequent to international registration or in respect of the renewal of an international registration.

For the first half of this year, China has once again been the country that was most often named as a designated country in IR trademark registrations. Until July, WIPO registered 7,802 applications with designation for China. The following ranks are occupied by Switzerland (7,421), the Russian Federation (7,312), the USA (7,7072) and the European Community (6,296). Japan has been designated 5,925 times, making it number six of the countries named most often.
